Kitchen and Bath Specialist - IKEA Oak Creek

February 26, 2020-Present

I have designed kitchens and bathrooms for homes and business since starting at IKEA in 2020. I had to learn quickly and efficiently what goes into a functional and beautiful space in the deepest parts of the Covid-19 pandemic, but my enthusiasm and willingness to learn and adapt to circumstances helped me through it all.

With over three years of experience, I know what goes into a well-working space, and how to communicate well with both clients and coworkers to create the most functional space for people.

I had to learn the IKEA CAD system from the ground up, which has now given me experience in multiple CAD programs, including AutoCAD and SketchUp.  I can efficiently navigate through these programs to make the process of design as seamless as possible.

I have the creativity and determination to make any space as functional and aesthetically pleasing as possible, and my ability to think outside the box has turned the most difficult and challenging room footprints into beautiful and well-working kitchens and bathrooms.

I am a very effective communicator with enthusiasm and a sunny disposition, and I am able to get along with almost anyone, which has earned me customer service ambassador awards every month since February 2022.

I have extensive knowledge in both the aesthetics and the physical aspects of a kitchen, and am able to explain easily and succinctly the process of designing a space fit for any client's space, along with the processes our subcontracted builders have for installation, from architecture, quartz fabrication, and carpentry to electrical and plumbing.

Education

Computer Simulation and Gaming - Milwaukee Area Technical College

2018 - present

My studies at MATC were in Computer Simulation and Gaming, which has given me experience in concept art and game design.

I have done concept art and character designs for several projects, some stand-out ones include Witch's Brew, a NES-style matching puzzle game for the 2020 Global Game Jam, and Bongo Beats, a motion activated rhythm game.  I have done design for not only games, but also for an RPG homebrew concept I named the World of Light.  The artwork for all of the listed projects are in my project works page.

The concepts for the previously mentioned projects were also my own, which were decided upon by my team and professors, which reflects my unique ideas and collaboration skills with peers.

While collaborating with classmates, I have created several different iterations of designs for these projects, working well on taking constructive critism and getting along with others.

How I Think Outside the Box

In my time as a kitchen and bathroom designer, I have had dozens of very challenging and difficult to work with spaces.  I have multiple spaces that I will remember for a long time to come, but the project that sticks out to me the most is a kitchen I designed for a woman's flat in Paris, France.

Her space was very small, with one of her walls measuring only 20 inches, and it took me a lot of trial and error to work something out for her.  Additionally, the cabinetry in Europe is different from the ones here, so I had to use the French CAD system to correctly measure everything out.  The system could not be translated into English, so I had to navigate through the French language to put her space together.

In the end, after hours of trial and error and moving things around, I was able to give her a concept for her space that she was very pleased with, along with lots of fun and interesting conversations about life and culture in Europe.
